Dia de los Muertos / Day of the Dead 2020
This year I wanted to explore new visual ways to express sugar skulls and color associated with DDLM. My idea came from a random dream where objects were splashes of liquid color.. Immediately I started to paint the skulls like I have on the previous years, but I then thinned the paint to a much more splash-able consistency. I then used a pallet knife and also moved the canvas around to achieve different splash, dripping and run off the canvas looks. There still may be much more room to improve this technique and the results from this time are spectacular if I don’t say so myself. Below is the artwork from 2020.
